As I am invited to speak about 5G at a LoRaWAN event (ThingsConference 22nd of September 2022), I thought it was appropriate to dig into the aspects of LoRaWAN vs the different, current 5G standards for LPWAN. I believe that LoRaWAN and 5G are like a tug of wars. On one side, the LPWA technologies …
If you’ve experienced landline telephony, you know those phone jackets on the wall; you’ve probably experienced cordless phones with DECT technology. So what does this technology have to do with 5G? In late 2021 a group managed to qualify a 5G standard, DECT NR+ 5G, as part of 5G. It is also based on non-cellular …

In this post we are getting to the bottom with one of the most common misunderstandings when it comes to SIM-cards, eSIM and eUICC. Let´s begin with eUICC. eUICC stands for Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card. It is a software component that can store multiple network profiles for different operators on a SIM card. Profiles …
I had the honor of delivering a 15-minute keynote at the EU Tech Chambers IoT Alliance event Safety at work with IoT. I talked about how IoT can change work-life for people working with forwarders in the forestry industry, focusing on how IoT can improve the future working environment for not only these drivers but …
In the last couple of weeks, I have been involved in many discussions on IoT hardware design. As the IoT market matures and more hardware becomes available, it is evident that all hardware is not built equally great. The battery battle Many discussions have involved batteries and battery life for IoT devices, more on that …
Battery and energy consumption is central to IoT. It does not have to, we will talk about that later, but almost always comes up in discussions. Battery-driven sensors are what many think of first when it comes to IoT. Sensors with tens of years of battery life, all running on a primary cell, or in …
Our view of security in communications infrastructure is changing, with a demand for security and availability when it’s needed becoming more widespread. In recent years, we have been exposed to terrorist attacks in Stockholm, cyber attacks on infrastructure, and storms. Municipalities whose IT systems have been inaccessible, shops whose cash register systems have not worked …
The metaverse is a network of virtual worlds with a focus on social connections. It is said to be the next version of the Internet with a single universal virtual world. I have defined 6G to be a technology that “unites different worlds, the human, physical and digital worlds, into one. ” SO, will 6G be the same as metaverse? Or is metaverse something else?
The network architecture of 5G networks is based on two different network structures, 5G Non-Standalone Access (5G NSA) and 5G Standalone Access (5G SA). So what are the different benefits, when are they used and why do you even need to know about them? I will answer these questions below. But first, let’s look at …
After taking part in a session on the all-new DECT NR+ 5G standard recently, and being invited by the IoT Alliance as a 5G expert, I got the question, will wifi ever be a part of 5G. And that is a very relevant question I think. Will 5G and wifi exist together in the same …
